April 28, 2024Could This Be The Downfall Of FiveM
Not many know but at some point, Take-two Interactive the parent company of Rockstar games, bought CFx.re - while it was split between people thinking they'd shut it down or it'd be the best move ever. Everyone seems to be wrong, well not all.
You see why it might appear to be a great business move, which it is - more funding to bring more features and better and possibly even native support to FiveM. However, as most have noticed all the amazing car mods, LSPDFR, and other such mods have all gone from FiveM - for one important reason I'll get into. It's plain and simple, now that take-two interactive (Rockstar) own Cfx.re Fivem - GTA 5 PC multiplayer mod, they couldn't risk the copyright claims. Same as in the base game you won't see any real brands or people for these legal reasons.
While some FiveM servers may still have included some mods that may resemble real-life looks and brand names, they're slowly getting shut down. While this is understandable it gets a little deeper and more scary than just copyright issues.
Now that take-two has control of FiveM it means they can control what content is shared on servers and limit the content creation to a degree. Take-Two and Rockstar are very well known for taking down mods they don't like - Such as the VR mod, ChatGPT NPC mod, and so on. It's another means of control, while we haven't seen any hard crackdowns on creation, it's a possibility we may see in the near future.
What effect might this have on Grand Theft Auto 6 - also known as Grand Theft Auto VI - well this is where some good news might be from. With Take-two now owning cfx.re, it means we could potentially create a natively support version for this game. This means it could be built in like multiplayer was last time. At the very least it should get support from third parties very fast, we won't be waiting forever like we did with FiveM. SixM (I'm guessing that's what it will be called) Could mark a revolution in the gaming industry of roleplay, however only time will tell at this stage.
So if you've been wondering why your favorite server has shut down or they've changed all their mods suddenly. This could answer a lot of those questions for you.
