July 6, 2024PMDG Pulls All P3D Products From Store
That is right, PMDG has pulled all their product for (P3D) Prepar3D Down from their store, in a move to focus on the current and new generations of Flight Simulator (MSFS). Mathijs From PMDG however did comment on the matter on the PMDG Forums
"Also, we have never said the product would never be sold again—just that it was removed and that I was not sure if it would ever be back. Commercially, it makes no sense whatsoever to have it online and to pay for the DRM licenses etc. Moving the products to another shop does not reduce those costs but only reduces the amount PMDG receives, so that's not a solution and would just make the problem larger!"
So from this, we can see that PMDG may at some point later on bring back the sale of P3D products, but at the moment - it just didn't make sense in terms of the cost on their end. This isn't the end of the road for P3D users though. For Prepar3d users, you can still purchase PMDG products through third-party stores such as Aerosoft.
While I think this is a step in the right direction for PMDG, it seems to have created some confusion in the community - it's clear P3D users will still get support for their products, to what degree is yet to be seen. However, it's clear that PMDG wants to focus on where the market is at which is MSFS (Microsoft Flight Simulator) and the up and coming Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
