June 5, 2024The Future Of Virtual Reality
A big part of it is we can thank giants like Meta (Former Oculus) for making affordable consumer-grade Virtual Reality headsets for you and me, without breaking the bank. Most importantly though in the past 5 years. We've had such big jumps in Technogly being brought in at cheaper and more affordable pricing. I still remember unboxing my Oculus DK2 and being blown away that I could even see a 3d Image in Virtual Reality.
Now I can casually scroll my phone, have a drink, and make something to eat even without having to leave virtual reality - we went from low-resolution slow refresh rate screens to almost seamless VR color passthrough.
Social Mass adaption
These devices will become a part of everyday life, even in the education sector - this could be the next calculator. I mean in the sense of what a game change the calculator was when it came out. We could experience the same within Virtual Reality - Have a way of physically showing students things instead of looking at pictures.
It's a very real possibility and as the technology advances and gets cheaper for the end users, this is a very real reality we could be looking at and something that already happens within a lot of companies. We already see people in public using Meta Quest 3, and then using the Apple Vision. So we're only a few small steps away from mass adoption into people's normal lives.
Gaming Mass Adoption
We're seeing a massive incline in mass adaption into the gaming scene for Virtual Reality, to the point where almost any game made in the Unreal Engine can be played in VR even if it isn't supported. Just by using Praydog's UE VR Injector Mod, you can enjoy your favorite Unreal engine games in Virtual reality, with minimal effort.
With Games like VRChat, we now have great social worlds, where you can legitimately go to a bar virtually and have a drink with your friends - if you're at the legal age for that, after that you can go play laser tag. It sounds crazy and almost like something out of a movie but it's 100% Real.
So what do you think we can expect for the future of virtual reality, both socially and hardware? We’ve come so far in past 5 years, how much further will we be in another 5 years
