If you haven't already seen over on my YouTube Channel, Pimax sent across the Pimax Crystal Light for me to try out - and oh boy, there is a lot to go over here.
You might think that, as we enter 2026, the Pimax Crystal Light is outdated and old. While it has been out for a while, it's far from outdated. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's quite possibly the BEST VR headset you can buy currently! When playing any simulator game, it's hard to ignore Pimax; they're considered the kings of VR for a reason. So let's go over what different to other brands
The Performance
The biggest and most important thing in Virtual Reality is performance, and this is where Pimax really separates itself from the competition. Pimax's software is some of the best on the market, offering fovated rendering. Now let me tell you, this is a game-changer; their quad views option allows you to push even more performance out of their headsets. Which means you feel more immersed and less motion sick.

Flight Simulator is where the power is really unlocked. Since SU4 (Simupdate 4), Flight Simulator 2024 has offered its own version of fovated render, along with huge improvements in Virtual Reality performance. Now pair this with Pimax's "Quad views," you're looking at running a VR headset at full resulotion running at 75 frames per second on ultra settings. No, that's not a typo... For the first time ever, I can run VR on ultra settings. With the same settings on my Quest 3, it sadly turns to a more unstable and almost unplayable experince at these settings - But not for the Pimax Crystal Light.
The Comfort
Next up is comfort. Now, if you have a VR headset, you'll know the battle we all go through trying to keep the headset comfortable over hours of use. For example, with my Quest 3 - I've a completely custom headset with extra battery storage on the back to help balance it. While it's better than the default strap, it still falls short. However, the Crystal Light takes the crown here for the best feeling strap design I've felt. I'm able to stay in VR for hours on end, without any issues - well, kind of. There is one slight problem but you'll have to watch my video to find out.

The Pimax Crystal Light uses a somewhat "standard" 3 strap design, but also features a VERY comfortable "back headrest" which is a plastic cushioned bit that sits on the back of your head. Which is important because it's there, the tensioning knob is. Which, by the way, comes standard / default! Normally, for things like this on other headsets, you're paying extra. On top, it also comes with a tensioning strap, which lets you fine-tune the front pressure.
Displays
Now, thanks to Pimax being way ahead of the competition, they've included a display that has a massive resolution of 2880 x 2880 Per eye - yes, that's right. PER EYE! That's huge! Even for 2026, that's a really good resolution. Now it's almost impossible to show you how clear this display is, so I'll use the Quest 3 as a reference. Resolution numbers don't tell the full story; it also comes down to the custom lenses that it ships with. Compared to the Quest 3, it's night and day. Using a Quest 3 in MSFS, you can do VFR flying - you can make out most of the instruments and get an idea of the terrain around you - but reading text and numbers on displays, it falls short. However, the Pimax Crystal Light shines right through here - in fact, if you watch my video HERE you can actually see I'm able to fully program an MCDU in the A320 without really even needing to lean in - you just look at it, and you can see it. It's mind-blowing how clear the displays are.

Audio
The only thing that really is showing its age is the audio. Now it's not bad by any means, but it's also not great. I'd say that the Quest 3 beats in the audio department. At least if we're talking about the standard edition. However, this is a simple fix using some nice quality earphones or speakers, which goes a long way to complement the headset.

So is it worth it still?
So I think it's clear - yes, it is worth it. But lets go over why, and why it might be better than the more expensive virtual reality headsets. When I look at a product and think if it's worth it, i take into account how it performs, how usable it is, and of course, its cost - even more so in VR, specifically the cost to performance. Or as we Aussies like to say, Best bang for your buck. Which is exactly what the Pimax Crystal Light Offers - an almost unbeatable best bang for buck ratio. For the price to the raw performance, you just can't find anything better.
